Black Magic Friesian Performance TroupeIn the spring of 2010, FHANA members Heather Bonser, Anneke Van Den IJssel and I teamed up to form the Black magic Friesian Performance Troupe. Since then, we have been actively involved in promoting the KFPS FHANA Friesian in Northeast Texas through educational clinics, Friesian Fun Days, Expo appearances, parades, and social events. On October 16, 2010, Black Magic represented the Friesian horse at Teskey's Third Annual Equine Expo in Weatherford, Texas. Teskey's is one of the largest Western stores in this area, and the event was attended by approximately 2,500 visitors. At this event, Black Magic treated attendees to a Friesian riding demonstration in full Renaissance costume. Visitors also had the opportunity to "meet the Friesians" up close and personal and talk with us one on one about the Friesian horse. As always, it was a joy for us to share our Friesians, and the Friesians dazzled the crowd and posed for countless photos. On Saturday, April 30, 2011, Black Magic Friesian Performance Troop participated in the 20th Annual Rockwall County Sheriff's Posse Trail Ride. The Posse is a non-profit, volunteer organization that works hand in hand with local emergency service providers and the country sheriff, and this event is an annual fundraiser to upgrade the Posse's equipment used to provide event security, search and rescue, and stray livestock round up. The Black Magic team, consisting of Heather Bonser on Blomke, Anneke Van den Ijssel on Sanne, and Charlotte Dumford on Quibus, was joined at this event by Walter Bonser riding Star, and a special guest from Holland, Carina Langenberg, riding Anneke's gelding, Remco. Many participants recognized the Friesians from previous Posse rides and had lots of questions about their versatility and uses. This year, the Sheriff's Posse added a second segment of the ride with more advanced challenges and obstacles. The Friesians rose to the occasion and had a great chance to prove their steady character and willingness over two miles of deep ravines, water crossings, and a reservoir dam! We were so proud of all the horses and would like to offer a big thank you to the Rockwall County Sheriff's Posse for hosting this event every year! | ![]() |
